1000 HORSE ULTIMATE BAD BOY!!!!!
You've Gotta Check This Out!!!
2008 SHELBY GT 500 CONVERTIBLE
A long time ago, back in the mid 70’s I purchased my first Mustang a 1970 Mach 1. I drove that for a number of years until
one night I crashed. I was on a road that is twisty and hilly. Coming out of a lazy right hander at the top of a hill I went
airborne. Upon landing I turned left on the steering wheel to negotiate the hard left, but to my amazement the car didn’t
turn. Going airborne again off the hill, and road I came to rest in some farmer’s front yard. Imagine the consternation of
the farmer and his wife being woke up in the middle of the night to find a dark blue Mustang in their front yard. After a
moment to compose myself, I get out to inspect the damage. It was hard to see much in the dark, but I could see that
both front tires were folded under the car, both A arms had broken. Probably a good thing, cuz if just one had broken it
probably would have rolled causing considerable more damage and injury. Asking to use the phone I was informed that
they didn’t have one so I hiked the 10 or 12 miles back to town to call for assistance. After returning the farmer helped
me remove a section of his picket fence so we could get the tow truck in to remove the car. I had the front end rebuilt
and drove it a while longer before the US Navy
sent me to Asia. Not seeing a need to keep it I
sold it to my brother. Thus entering my GM
years.
In 2005 when Ford came out with the new retro
style Mustang I fell in love with it. Going to dealers
in the area I couldn’t find one that was set up
the way I wanted it, so in June of 2005 I ordered
one from the factory. Impatiently waiting I finally
took delivery on February 27, 2006. The next 3
years were sheer driving pleasure for me. Then
early in 2009 I came across the little gem I now
have, a 2008 Shelby GT-500. It is the fastest and
best handling car I have ever owned and really
love the way she squats down when she gets
angry. I hope to enjoy it for many years to come.
Although somewhere in me there is an ember burning that is a longing for a Mach 1. Maybe it’s a desire to go back to my
younger years and closer to my first Mustang or maybe it’s just a wild notion that will pass with time. I would prefer a ‘69
or ‘70 with a 428 Cobra Jet or the 429 KK NASCAR edition. If you are going to dream, you might as well dream big. We
will see what the future will bring.
